Toronto, Canada // On Monday March 4th, ŠALFASS/LAUNA organized the global premiere of the Martynas Starkus documentary film, JONAS, depicting the life and career of Lithuanian star basketball player, Jonas Valančiūnas.
More than 350 people were treated to the first public viewing of the new film, followed by a live Q&A session with the film’s Director and Producer, Martynas Starkus, and the film’s focal star, Jonas Valančiūnas, led by ŠALFASS president, Stasys Kuliavas.
The fact that the film’s premiere took place in Toronto was a deliberate choice, as it was to celebrate this event with the Toronto-Lithuanian community. According to the film’s director, Martynas Starkus, “Toronto is the city where Jonas Valančiūnas’ NBA career began, so it’s delightful to present this film here first and foremost to the Lithuanian community of Toronto, of which Jonas became a member upon his arrival in Canada and where he spent seven seasons with the Toronto Raptors.”
Since Jonas was traded from the Raptors mid-season in 2019, this marked the first formal opportunity for him to reconnect with members of the Toronto-Lithuanian community, where he had spent seven seasons. The reunion was filled with catching up, taking photos, and enjoying each other’s company.
Other notable attendees at the premiere included Jonas’ wife, Egle, several players and coaching staff from the New Orleans Pelicans, as well as Toronto Raptors Superfan, Nav Bhatia.

ŠALFASS kartu su Martynu Starkumi ir Jonu Valančiūnu surengė pasaulinę filmo JONAS premjerą.
Torontas, Kanada // Kovo 4 d., pirmadienį, ŠALFASS/LAUNA surengė Martyno Starkaus dokumentinio filmo JONAS premjerą. Filme pasakojama apie Lietuvos krepšinio žvaigždės Jono Valančiūno gyvenimą ir karjerą.
Didžiulio susidomėjimo sulaukusiame renginyje dalyvavo beveik keturi šimtai svečių. Po filmo premjeros ŠALFASS prezidentas Stasys Kuliavas visus pakvietė į diskusiją, kurioje dalyvavo ne tik filmo JONAS režisierius M. Starkus, bet ir pats J. Valančiūnas.
Tai, kad filmo premjera įvyko Toronte, buvo sąmoningas pasirinkimas. Pasak filmo režisieriaus Martyno Starkaus, simboliška tai, jog būtent Torontas yra Jono Valančiūno NBA karjeros pradžios miestas, todėl smagu šį filmą pristatyti būtent čia ir pirmiausia Toronto lietuvių bendruomenei, kurios nariu Jonas tapo vos atvykęs į Kanadą ir čia praleido septynis Toronto “Raptors” sezonus.
Po to kai 2019 m. sezono viduryje Jonas buvo iškeistas iš Toronto “Raptors” komandos ir išvyko į JAV, dokumentinio filmo premjera tapo puikia proga grįžti į Torontą ir praleisti laiką su čia gyvenančiais bičiuliais.
Renginyje taip pat dalyvavo Jono žmona Eglė Valančiūnienė, keli Naujojo Orleano “Pelicans” žaidėjai ir trenerių štabo nariai bei Toronto “Raptors” superfanas Nav Bhatia.
